This policy defines the responsible use, management, and security of both personal and school-issued mobile devices at Le Régent International School. It aims to:
- Promote safety and wellbeing.
- Support productivity and communication.
- Prevent misuse or security breaches.
- Align with CyberSafe practices and the Swiss nLPD.
Mobile devices include phones, smartwatches, iPads, MP3/MP4 players, and similar portable digital equipment.
Applies to all individuals on campus or involved in school activities:
- 👨🏫 Staff (full-time & hourly)
- 🧑🎓 Students (day & boarding)
- 👨🔧 Contractors
- 🧑💼 Visitors & Parents
- Devices are assigned when a role requires mobile access.
- Devices are managed and supported by the IT department.
- Ownership remains with the school. The device must be returned on or before the last working day.
- Employees may request to retain the number if technically feasible.
- Includes unlimited calls, texts, and data within Switzerland.
- International use is allowed for work purposes, billed to the school.
- Reasonable personal use within plan limits is accepted.
- The monthly phone bill is issued to the user. The school reimburses the standard cost, which is typically added to the staff member’s monthly salary payment.
- Devices must be secured with a password/PIN and auto-lock after 5 min.
- Staff must remove personal accounts and data before returning the phone.
- The school reserves the right to:
- Monitor device configuration and logs.
- Cancel access or request return at any time for misuse.
✅ Allowed:
- Work-related apps, communication, calendar, etc.
- Reasonable personal use (in line with contract)
🚫 Prohibited:
- Harassment, illicit content, proprietary data storage.
- Use while driving without hands-free equipment.
- Accessing premium-rate services or entering competitions.
- Must keep phones on silent and out of sight during contact time with students.
- May use phones only during non-contact time and away from students.
- Emergencies must go through the school office or landline.
- Staff may take photos/videos for educational use but must delete all content afterward.
- Mobile usage during lessons must be explicitly justified by pedagogical needs.
- Must hand in phones at the start of the school day (Junior School).
- May use phones only during breaks and return them after use (Boarding).
- Any cyberbullying, misuse, or distraction may lead to confiscation and disciplinary action.
- The school is not responsible for loss/damage of personal devices.
- Expected to follow staff-level rules.
- Phone use must remain discreet and respectful.
- Photos/videos may be taken during events but must not include other children on social media.
This Mobile Device Use Policy may be complemented by additional guidance from the school's Pastoral Care Policy. In case of any conflict between this document and the pastoral policy, the Pastoral Care Policy will take precedence in matters involving student wellbeing, safeguarding, or emotional development.
